Recipe for Canned Tuna Chilly Fry

So I don’t really know where ‘Chilly fry’ gets it’s name from because It’s not only Chillies that goes into a Chilly fry, but so many other elements and Onions being the Most Important one!
Nevertheless, This particular recipe was shared with and taught to me by my Dad-in-law(who is now in Heaven)! Whenever he made it, I would want to eat the entire bowl full but then I had to be kind to the rest of the family as well😄
This is a very Easy-Peasy no fail recipe with the simplest of ingredients! I’d like to share his recipe with all of you and in return, all I ask is for you to whisper a small prayer for my Dad-in-law’s soul😊

Ingredients

  • 4 Tuna Cans (100 gms each)
  • 6 Medium Sized Onions (chopped fine)
  • 2 Medium sized Tomatoes (chopped fine)
  • 4-6 Green Chillies (chopped fine)
  • 1/2 Tspn Turmeric Powder (optional)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Lemon Juice (optional)
  • Coriander leaves (chopped fine)

Instructions

  • In a skillet, Add about 6 medium sized onions, 2 medium sized Tomatoes and 4-6 green chillies, all chopped fine
  • Add the oil from all the Tuna tins into the skillet. Cover it and keep it on medium flame
Note:- please do not use any additional cooking oil. The oils from the tins are more than enough!
  • Once the onions are done(I like a slight crunch on my onions so I don’t cook them for too long, but it depends on how you like it), add 1/2 tspn turmeric powder, some chopped fresh coriander and salt as per taste.
    Note:- Turmeric powder is optional
If you like you can add some lemon juice as well at this stage. I haven’t added because one of my Tuna tins contains lemon
  • Add in all the Tuna from all four tins
  • Break the tuna down gently and Mix it well and let it cook for about 5-7 minutes on high flame. Turn off the flame and enjoy your Tuna Chilly Fry with either bread or chapatis!! 🤤🤤🤤😋😋
And don’t forget to invite me over😎😉😉
  • This is how your empty Tuna tins will look.
Now there’s a reason why I’m posting this as well!
Floyd(my Husband) got very emotional the first time he saw me discarding the tins open like this. He (in the most concerned and upset tone🤗) looked at me and said “put the tins back into the boxes na! our poor workers who clean the bins may get cuts from the sharp edges of the tins”
I was so moved and all I could think was “this bugger never fails to impress me yah❤️🙏”
  • So from then on, the empty tin always goes back into the box😊 and it would be nice if we could all practise the same🙏🤗
  • These are the Tunas that I have used. I always like To use a mix. But u can use one type if u like as well👍
