Recipe for Mommy-in-law’s Moogachem Godshem

The way to a Mom-in-law's Heart is to ensure that her Son is Fed well And the way to a Husband's Heart is to cook his Mom's specialties every once in a while.. and if you manage to nail both… Your life is Set 🙂 🙂
I love the way my Mom-in-law makes Moogachem Godshem. It is her Son's(and my) favourite!
I was to make this on my late Dad-in law's Birthday on 22nd April but I didn't have Moong then.. Better late than never Ithought..
My First attempt… I wish I could have taken a video of my Bitter Better’s reaction! It was plain P.R.E.C.I.O.U.S!
This particular sweet is a Traditional Goan sweet. Some call it Conn, some say Chirgeacheam godshem or Chinge. It is usually had as an Evening snack. Here's my Mommy-in-law's recipe. It's so Easy Peasy and so Delicious! Do give it a try!

Ingredients

  • 1 Fresh Coconut grated approx 140gms (extract 2 cups of juice using 2 cups of water)
  • 1.5 cups Whole Moong Dal
  • 3 cups water(for boiling the moong)
  • 1/2 tspn salt
  • 120 gms of Goa Palm Jaggery -grated(you can use any Jaggery)

Instructions

  • Wash the moong and transfer it into a Pressure cooker and add the water
  • Boil the Moong along with the salt on Medium low flame until 2 whistles are released
Note: Do not cook it for too long or else the moong will turn very soft
Safety Tip: Open the Pressure cooker only once all the steam is released or else the lid may burst open. If you wish to open the pressure cooker in advance, ensure to release the whistle of the cooker so that all the steam is released.
  • Now, Add the Coconut Milk and Jaggery
  • Let it simmer on low flame for about 8-10 minutes and turn off the heat
Note: Continuously stir the godshem or else the coconut milk will split
  • The godshem is ready. You can enjoy this Hot or Cold or at Room temperature.
